Hon'ble President of India graced the Post Centennial Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Deccan Education Society, Pune and Fergusson College, Pune, on 19 April, 2010 Honorable President of India, Her Excellency Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, graced the ‘Concluding Ceremony of Post Centennial Silver Jubilee Celebrations’ with her presence on 19th of April 2010, in Fergusson College, Pune, alongwith Shri. Chhagan Chandrakant Bhujbal, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Subhash Zanak, Minister for Women and Child Development and Shri Shahu Chhatrapati, President of Deccan Education Society. Various dignitaries like MLAs, VC of University of Pune, Ex-Chairman of UGC Dr. Arun Nigawekar, Dr. V. Karad, Dr. SB Muzumdar, Government officials, Educationists, University authorities, Industrialists, Economists, Doctors, Teachers etc., many of whom are our ex-students, attended the Ceremony. The Vice-Presidents and Trustees of DES were also present. The Council Members of Deccan Education Society, the entire staff and students of Fergusson College and Deccan Education Society worked hard round the clock and made this a memorable event, to be cherished for long time.
◊ 125 YEARS OF GLORIOUS HISTORY ◊
Fergusson College has 125 years of history as the flagship of higher education in Pune. Alma Mater to leaders across the entire spectrum of societal positions: Prime-Ministers, Industrialists, Doctors, Engineers, Academicians, Scientists, Litterateurs, Artistes, and Sportspersons. The College offers a three tier package, beginning with the Junior college that caters to students passing out from school. Comprehensive courses are offered in both Arts and Science streams, preparing students to launch out into professional courses or continue on towards graduate studies in the Senior College. At the senior college, students can work towards a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in a range of subjects spanning Languages, Social Sciences, Humanities or a Bachelor of Science ( B.Sc.) degree in any one of the traditional Natural Sciences or in cutting edge subjects like Computer Science, Biotechnology, Electronic Science, Microbiology. Post-Graduate degree courses are also offered both in the Science and Arts streams. Some Arts and Science subjects offer facilities for Doctoral Research as well. A sprawling campus, in the heart of the city, provides space for recidential facilities, sports, games and cultural facilities which contribute to the well rounded development of a more than 5500 strong student population. Fergusson College completed 125 years on 2nd January, 2010.
