Biochemistry Club Activity
The FC Biochem Club organized an event to mark the release of the second volume of Chiasma, the department’s Biochemistry Club magazine on 17th August, 2024. The event was graced by the presence of our esteemed Principal, Dr. Vijay Tadke Sir, and Vice Principal, Professor Swati Joglekar, and guest speaker Dr. Amul J. Sakharkar (Department of Biotechnology, SPPU), who jointly inaugurated the magazine. The most recent release of Chiasma presents a curated collection of articles and research highlights in the field of genetics. This volume delves into the latest advancements, featuring topics such as the intriguing concept of Mitochondrial Eve and cutting-edge innovations like Next Generation Sequencing. In addition to the scientific articles, it also includes engaging puzzles and riddles, offering readers an interactive and comprehensive exploration of the fascinating world of genetic research.
Guest Lecture by Dr. Amul J. Sakharkar
Following the magazine launch, a guest lecture was conducted by Dr. Amul J. Sakharkar (Ph.D.), from the Department of Biotechnology, Savitribai Phule Pune University. Dr. Sakharkar delivered an enlightening session on “Career Opportunities in the Field of Biochemistry.” Dr. Sakharkar has extensive research experience in neuroscience; his work focuses on neuroepigenetics, oxidative homeostasis, and the role of epigenetic modifications in brain disorders, including alcoholism and anxiety. He has held prestigious positions at the University of Illinois at Chicago and has made significant contributions to the field through numerous peer-reviewed publications. During his talk, Dr. Sakharkar provided valuable insights into higher education opportunities, competitive exams, and emerging fields such as bioinformatics, molecular diagnostics, and biomedical research. The lecture was highly interactive, with students actively engaging in discussions and seeking guidance on career prospects. Dr. Sakharkar’s expertise and motivational approach inspired students to explore diverse opportunities within the field of biochemistry. The Biochem Club looks forward to organizing more such enriching activities in the future to foster knowledge and professional growth among students in the field of biochemistry
