SOCIAL OUTREACH AND ENABLING CENTRE
(SOEC)

Social Outreach & Enabling Centre (SOEC)

Social Outreach & Enabling Centre (SOEC) at Fergusson College, established in 2014 by Prof. Sunita Gupta Ma’am from the Sociology Department, is dedicated to promoting social outreach and volunteerism among students. Partnering with numerous NGOs, SOEC provides a platform for students to engage in meaningful causes, supporting their holistic development. At the core of SOEC’s mission is a strong commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of marginalized and disadvantaged communities. We recognize the collective responsibility of an informed society to empower the underprivileged, fostering their self-reliance and enabling them to lead lives of respect and independence. Our guiding principles are rooted in timeless human values—compassion, tolerance, democracy, justice, equality, peace, pluralism, and cooperation. These values shape our vision of inclusive and sustainable social progress.

As of 2025, SOEC partners with five notable NGOs:

Seva Sahayog

Seva Sahayog is a non-profit organization that bridges the gap between volunteers and NGOs working at the grassroots. It focuses on improving education, health, and livelihoods for underprivileged communities. Their flagship project, “School Kit Drive,” has reached
thousands of children across Maharashtra. The organization also promotes corporate volunteering and youth engagement. Seva Sahayog fosters social responsibility through collective action.

deAsra Foundation

deAsra is a social enterprise that supports aspiring and existing entrepreneurs in starting, managing, and growing small businesses. It offers business guidance, digital tools, and financial support to promote self-employment. The foundation especially empowers women and youth to become economically independent. By simplifying entrepreneurship, deAsra is building a stronger ecosystem for small-scale enterprises. It has helped over 2 lakh entrepreneurs across India.

Greensteps

Greensteps is SOEC’s very own student-driven environmental initiative. It promotes ecological awareness and sustainability through clean-up drives, tree plantations, recycling campaigns, and workshops. The group encourages responsible consumption and community involvement in environmental issues. Greensteps also collaborates with NGOs and civic bodies for larger impact. It aims to nurture environmentally conscious citizens through hands
on activism.

Surajya Sarvangin Vikas Prakalp (SSVP)

SSVP is committed to holistic rural development, particularly in remote and tribal areas. It works in the domains of education, women’s empowerment, health, and sustainable agriculture. The organization adopts a participatory approach to uplift marginalized communities. Their initiatives aim to create self-sustaining villages rooted in dignity and equity. SSVP blends traditional wisdom with modern solutions for lasting impact.

Swa-roop Wardhini

Swa-roop Wardhini is dedicated to the empowerment of women and children through education, skill-building, and mentorship. The organization runs various programs such as personality development workshops, vocational training, and leadership building. It creates safe spaces where women can explore their potential and contribute meaningfully to society. Their work promotes gender equality and social inclusion. The focus is on nurturing inner strength—or “swa-roop.”

At the heart of SOEC’s vibrant ecosystem is a powerhouse of talented and passionate individuals working together across five dynamic teams: Management, Design, Public Relations (PR), Documentation, Photography and the NGO heads. Each team brings its own flair, expertise, and energy—making SOEC not just a platform for outreach, but also a space for creativity, leadership, and collaboration.

Management Team: The Strategists

Think of them as the engine that keeps SOEC running. The Management Team plans, coordinates, and oversees every project, partnership, and event. From liaising with NGOs to ensuring deadlines are met and resources are in place, they make sure every moving part fits together. They’re the bridge between vision and execution—quietly leading from the front.

PR Team: The Voice

If SOEC has a personality, the PR Team gives it a voice. The content creators, and digital communicators who manage our social presence through ground PR in the college to all the departments and managing public image. From promoting initiatives to writing captions that click, they make sure our message reaches the right people at the right time—and in the right tone.

Photography Team: The Storytellers

A single photograph can capture what a thousand words can’t—and that’s exactly what this team does. Armed with cameras and an eye for detail, the Photography Team captures the spirit of SOEC in every frame. From field visits to community drives, they help us share moments that matter.

Design Team: The Creatives

This is where ideas turn into eye-catching visuals. The Design Team adds color, clarity, and character to everything SOEC does. Be it social media posts, event banners, digital brochures, all events and fests` decorations or presentations—they craft visuals that not only inform but also inspire. Creativity meets purpose here.

Documentation Team: The Historians

Behind every successful event is a team that records, reflects, and writes it all down. The Documentation Team captures the who, what, when, and why of every activity—creating detailed reports, drafting and framing that goes around, drafting mails and letters, reflections, and archives that not only track progress but also shape the future. Their work ensures that nothing valuable gets lost with time.

NGO Heads: The Bridge builders

The NGO Heads at SOEC play a crucial role in building and maintaining a strong liaison between SOEC and various NGOs. Planning and executing both on-campus and off-campus events that foster student engagement with social causes along with that they constantly work towards creating impactful experiences that promote social awareness and responsibility. Acting as bridges between students and the field, they bring relevance and depth to every initiative. Their stories and leadership inspire and shape student volunteers into thoughtful changemakers.
Together, these teams form the backbone of SOEC. They don’t just work for a cause—they create impact. With collaboration, purpose, and a bit of creative magic, they turn ideas into action and outreach into lasting change. SOEC begins each academic year with its orientation event Aarambh, featuring inspiring guest talks, cultural performances, and interactive sessions with partner NGOs. The event sets a vibrant tone for the year, introducing students to SOEC’s mission and credit-based participation
system.

SOEC AS CC (CO-CURRICULAR SUBJECT)

Starting in 2025, the Social Outreach and Enabling Centre (SOEC) has been officially recognized as a Co-Curricular Subject at Fergusson College. This development offers students a unique opportunity to blend academic learning with hands-on social engagement. By participating in SOEC’s diverse activities—ranging from community service and awareness drives to collaborative projects with NGOs—students can contribute to meaningful social change. This initiative not only promotes civic responsibility but also helps students develop leadership, communication, and organizational skills beyond the classroom.
