Objectives

This is a one-year full-time course run autonomously by Fergusson College since 2005. The major objective of the course is to impartthe micro-skills of counseling and hands-on training in counseling to those students or professionals who wish to pursue their career in the helping field. The course places equal emphasis on theoretical understandingof the concepts of counseling as well as practical experience.

Course Structure

4 Theory Papers

Paper I Counselling Theory : (CP1 and CP2)

This paper covers all the major approaches to counselling and ethics of counselling
Z

Paper III: Psychological Assessment :

CP 5 (Psychological Testing) : This paper covers the basics of Psychometry and its role in psychological assessment.
CP 6 (Maladaptive Behavior) : This paper covers all the basic categories of Abnormal Behavior.

Paper II Micro-skills of Counselling : (CP3 and CP4)

This paper covers essential skills of counselling such as active listening, empathy, validation, accessing childhood memories, interpretations and offering challenges.

Paper IV: Family Dynamics :

b>CP 7 (Family Dynamics : a developmental approach): This paper covers all the stages of the family life cycle.
CP 8 (Family Therapy) : This paper covers the various theories of Family and Couples Counselling

4 Theory Papers

CP 9: Testing Practicals

Students complete 5 tests: Administration, Scoring, Interpretation and Report Writing. These reports are attached in their journal.

CP 10: Counselling Practicals:

Students handle 5 cases, with 5 one-hour sessions for each client. Clinical Supervision is offered for their counselling work. Counselling case reports are attached in their journal.
