The Hindi Department of Fergusson College was established in the year 1952. At that time, the subject was taught only at general level. The first Head of the Hindi dept. was Prof. B. D. Varma. From June 1954, Prof. Rajwade took the charge of headship and worked up to June 1956. From June to Jan. 1990 Dr S. M. Paralikar worked as the Head of the Dept. Because of the natural growth in the divisions, Prof V. H. Joshi joined the department in the year 1960. As the Department started special course in the subject. Dr. A. P. Pujari joined in the year 1973.Dr. Rajani Ranpise Worked as the Head from 2008 to 2014. Dr.Santosh .T. Dhotre joined in the year 2008 and currently serves as the head of the department.
