महाविद्यालय गेली जवळपास ९५ वर्षे मराठी विषयात पदवी शिक्षण देत आहे. मराठी विभागात सध्या पदवीपूर्व, पदव्युत्तर आणि डॉक्टरेट स्तरावरील अभ्यासक्रम राबवले जातात. महाविद्यालयात मराठी पदवी अभ्यासक्रम (बी. ए. मराठी) १९३० साली सुरू झाला, तर पदव्युत्तर विभाग (एम. ए. मराठी) १९७८ साली सुरू झाला. मराठी विषयातील पीएच.डी. अभ्यासक्रमाची सुरुवात २०१९ साली झाली.
विभाग बी. ए. आणि एम. ए.च्या मूल्यमापनासाठी वार्षिक तसेच निवड आधारित श्रेयांक प्रणाली (सीबीसीएस/सेमिस्टर पद्धती) राबवतो. सन २०२३ पासून बी. ए. आणि एम. ए.चे संपूर्ण शिक्षण ‘नवीन अभ्यासक्रम धोरण – २०२० (एनईपी-२०२०)’वर आधारित पद्धतीनुसार दिले जात आहे.
विभागात सध्या ३ पूर्णवेळ प्राध्यापक आणि ४ तासिका तत्त्वावर कार्यरत शिक्षक आहेत. त्यांपैकी दोन प्राध्यापक, एक सहयोगी प्राध्यापक आणि इतर चार सहाय्यक प्राध्यापक आहेत.

Department of Marathi, Fergusson College, Deccan Education Society, Pune is one of the oldest and most renowned departments of the college. The department has a long tradition
and legacy of many decades and has produced numerous distinguished personalities as well as their academic and career paths. The department is known not only in Maharashtra but also in other parts of the country as a good, prestigious and renowned centre for education of Marathi language, literature and allied fields. The college has been offering degree course in Marathi for almost 95 years. Department of Marathi is currently offers undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral courses. The Bachelor Degree Course (B. A.) in Marathi started in the college in 1930 and the PG section (M. A. in Marathi) was inaugurated in 1978, whereas the Ph.D. in Marathi is started in 2019. Department offers annual & Choice Based Credit System (semester pattern) for B.A. & M. A. The department has started offering complete education of B. A. and M. A. from the year 2023 as per the curriculum based on the ‘New Education Policy – 2002 (NEP-2020)’.There are 3 Full Time & 4 Visiting Faculties working in the Department. Two of them are Professor, one is Associate Professor and other four are Assistant Professors.
