History of The Library

1907

The collection of Raosaheb V.N. Mandlik was donated to the library by his son Shri. N.V Mandlik

1922

Fund collection by students for erection of the bust of Lokmanya Tilak in the Library

22nd July 1931

The freedom fighter and the then student of Fergusson College Mr. V.B. Gogate attempted assassination of British Governor Mr. Earnest Hotson

13th June 1931

The Deccan Education Society set up a bust of Namdar Gopal Krishna Gokhale in the library

1955

The Deccan Education Society constructed the first extension to the library for stacking books. This construction was done partly with the government aid.

16th March 1974

Lord Balantre, the grandson of Sir James Fergusson visited the library

August 1974

Library received Rs.20,000 as the generous endowment to set up “Prof. V.G. Kale Text Book library”

1982

The second extension was constructed to library.

1985

Visits of eminent personalities on the occasion of Fergusson College Centenary year.

1995

The erection of bust of Principal G.G. Agarkar – Well-Known social reformer & founder of Deccan Education Society.

1999

The Well Known industrialist Kotecha Family donated the valuable Osho Collection to the library.

2002

The library celebrated the British Centenary of Shri R. S. Parakhi who was the first librarian of this library and well-known library science scholar.

2012

Started Learning Centre for Virtually Disabled Students.

2010

College Established UGC Network Centre for Students. NETLAB

2013

Established DST-FIST centre with 29 Computers – Internet facility

2013

Grants from National archives of India for Preservation of rare Books and Manuscripts.

2014

Library Collection Fully barcoded, automated and available on WEBOPAC to the users.

2014

Library arranged in two sections-

1) Books published before 1950 AND

2) Books published after 1950

2014

Thoroughly and carefully stock verification done.

23rd April 2014

On World Books Day renowned Continental Publication donated 75 books on the memory of their father.

2017

Library introduced Digital Library.

2018

Library adopted RFID Technology.
